Derbyshire County Council Trusted TraderWhy are energy efficient windows so important

You'll probably know that the amount of energy we waste is directly linked to climate change.  And you'll definitely know how much it costs to heat a home.  But you may not be fully aware just how much difference the type of glass used in double glazing can have on the energy efficiency of a home.  And not all double-glazing is the same.  Just replacing the glass with Pilkington energiKareTM instead of ordinary double glazing, you will be reducing the amount of energy used and doing your bit for the environment too.

-- Pilkington energiKareTM improves the energy efficiency of your home.

-- Pilkington energiKareTM reduces the amount of energy you use.

-- Pilkington energiKareTM saves you money on your heating bills.

-- Pilkington energiKareTM is part of the Energy Saving Recommended scheme.

-- Pilkington energiKareTM is more effective than single or standard double glazing.

-- Pilkington energiKareTM is the only product that offers the reassurance of Pilkington quality and endorsed by the Energy Saving Trust.

How it Works

Pilkington energiKare™ is different to standard double glazing as it works in two ways. It reduces the amount of heat lost through your windows and it also allows more heat (energy) from the sun in through the window. This effect is known as solar gain and as it comes from the sun it’s free of charge.

Pilkington energiKare™ is made up of two special types of glass, Pilkington K Glass™, the UK’s best selling low emissivity glass which stops heat escaping and Pilkington Optiwhite™, a special ‘extra clear’ glass which allows more solar heat in through the windows.

What’s more, windows containing Pilkington energiKare™ can achieve the EST’s Energy Saving Recommended status. Once incorporated in suitable framing material it will normally achieve a minimum BFRC Window Energy Rating of C and can be improved to B or A by the addition of Argon gas filling or warm edge spacer bar technology. Pilkington energiKare™ Insulating Glass Units are manufactured by approved licensed IGU processors then fabricated and sold through approved registered window companies across the country.

Installing Pilkington energiKare™ will help reduce your household’s energy usage and CO2 emissions.

Understanding window energy ratings

The Window Energy Rating System measures the efficiency of the complete window and frame to produce a single number.  It's based on a similar European Union System for domestic appliances and is a simple way to compare the energy efficiency of competing products.

Pilkington energiKareTM helps windows achieve high levels of energy efficiency, a minimum C rating.
